Roger Federer, who was preparing to defend his Australian Open title, opened up to a sports news channel with an emotional interview about his former coach. Roger has always spoken about his inspirational yet influential coach who happens to die in a car accident on his honeymoon at the age of 37 back in 2002. He has always managed to cover up his emotions while talking about his coach but he recently could not mask his emotions and broke in tears while training in Dubai in December.

Federer turned 37 on August 7, just a day before his former coach Carter' s birthday. Carter would have been 53 by this time.
On asking about his reaction on how would Carter felt about his 20 grand slams, he broke down in tears and apologized for breaking up. It was broadcasted as the latest sports news about a famous player breaking up in front of the media like this. Roger said he hoped that Carter would have been proud of his accomplishments.
How the death of his coach affected Roger, was penned down by the Swiss tennis journalist who has written various sports articles about different players. He stated that Roger had never been so upset in his life span. The news of his death broke out when he was competing at the Canadian Masters in Toronto. Tackling the pressure of going through a match along with the loss of a dear one was certainly a tough task for Roger Federer but he managed it well.
According to an Australian sports update, Roger left his hotel on hearing the news of Carter's death and ran through the streets, weeping and panic-stricken.
After his death, Federer trained harder than before because he believed that his former coach would never want him to waste his talent on his death. Various sports news channels reported that it was a wake-up call for Federer.
